Swords of Wrath:Copyrights

So I was talking to someone today about what the copyright predicament of Swords of Wrath was and what writers could and couldn't do and so I want to write something to give reassurance to other writers about the copyright situation of Swords of Wrath. Now shared universes are hard to do from a copyright situation so one of my main priorities is legal clarity on who owns the copyright to what so here is what happens to copyright when you write a story in Swords of Wrath.

You are obliged to:

  1. Attribute us

And that's it. As the wiki is licensed under CC-BY, any derivative work you create you own full rights to (which we encourage you to consider Creative Commons licensing but that is well and truly up to you). You can:

  1. Create a work
  2. Share your work
  3. Sell your work
  4. Otherwise monetise your work

But there's a catch. Someone might write something that contradicts your work. This is unlikely to happen about characters or plot elements because they are copyright of you (and therefore impossible to base a story off) but if you make any decisions about the world (i.e. you start a war) then to avoid someone writing something else about the world (i.e. the two nations are enjoying peace) you need to upload it to the wiki.

TL;DR: you own all copyright to works in the setting but as a result all other writers own full copyright as well.* So to ensure that your work isn't contradicted you need to upload the elements important to the world to the wiki.

Thanks for reading.
